Soccer Part 2

Soccer class is interesting, in that, it's for 2 year olds. It's put on by an organization called "Kids Love Soccer." I'm not sure if they're all over or just in Seattle, by they kind of crack me up. They don't believe in competition. For anyone. They want everyone to have fun above all, and to all be equal. There are no races, there aren't anything that would even be remotely looked at as competition. It's like communism 101.

What cracks me up about this class is that, since they don't believe in competition, they don't teach "the game." Now, I know that it's just 2 yr. olds, and they wouldn't understand the concept, but they don't teach anything! No passing, no defense, no positions, no nothin'. It's bizarre! Instead, they play make believe the whole time. Every class is a different event: a kids birthday party, a day at the beach, something like that. Then, they make up games around that. For the birthday party, the kids delivered their invitations (read: cones) to the mailbox. While this seems rather silly for a SOCCER class (and it is) it really makes me laugh because these kids don't get it. At all. It's not just Ben, it's all of them! There are too many steps and the entire time they're supposed to take the ball with them. Are you kidding me? These kids can barely talk! *I* can't even keep up with all the steps!! Here's an example of one:

Growing a garden. Step one: plant the seed (read: put the pointed cone in the square)

Step 2: water the seed (read: get a purple cone. place it upside down on the pointed cone).

Voila! A flower.
Did you see how they did all that *and* took the ball with them? Wait. You didn't? Huh...
Here's Ben getting his certificate of completion from his coach.
Me: Ben, turn your certificate around so we can see it.
Apparently "certificate" is another word for "yourself."

Kids love soccer!
